Charges have been brought against two women for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into Hobbs, New Mexico’s Lea County Correctional Facility.
Mirakel Carter, 25, and Aubrey Luna, 30, are accused of committing several third-degree offenses, such as conspiring to smuggle contraband into jails and possessing a controlled substance with the purpose of marketing it.
The Lea County Drug Task Force reports that working in tandem with the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, the Security Threat Investigations Unit (STIU) of the Lea County Correctional Facility discovered a scheme to smuggle drugs into the facility.
On Thursday, January 4, the suspects met with an undercover drug inspector and handed over a box meant to be smuggled into the prison.
Along with $5,000 in cash, the package was discovered to include about 110 grams of probable methamphetamine, 215 grams of THC wax, and 14 sheets of paper soaked in an unidentified substance.
The methamphetamine has a street worth of about $3,300.
