Rapper Travis Scott is facing what seems to be the first of many lawsuits after the Astroworld concert event which left at least 8 confirmed dead.
The plaintiff’s name is Manuel Souza, who filed a lawsuit against Scott as well as organizer ScoreMore and concert behemoth Live Nation, claiming the deadly disaster was “predictable and preventable,” “a motivation for profit at the expense of concertgoers’ health and safety” and the “encouragement of violence.”

According to the documents received by the outlet, Manuel “suffered serious bodily injuries when the uncontrolled crowd at the concert knocked him to the ground and trampled him.”
The lawsuit further states ” The plaintiff’s injuries were the inevitable and predictable result of defendants’ conscious disregard of the extreme risks of harm to concertgoers that had been escalating since hours earlier.”
What some are now calling a “human crush”, a phenomenon which could be likened to a tsunami but instead of water, it’s a crowd of 50,000 people, was reportedly the cause for the chaos at the concert. Some collapsed, others fought for air, others ended up getting crushed.

Concertgoers lifted up the unconscious bodies of friends and strangers and surfed them over the top of the crowd, hoping to send them to safety. Others shouted out for help with CPR and pleaded for the concert to stop.
In the end, eight people died, ranging in age from 14 to 27, according to city officials. Hundreds more were treated for injuries at a field hospital at the concert venue, the NRG Park in Houston, or at local hospitals. Among those treated at a hospital was a 10-year-old child.
A day after the tragic event, Travis paid tribute to those who lost their lives at his concert. “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” he said in a statement on Twitter.

Despite the rapper’s apology, it is expected that more lawsuits will surface as more victims come forward.
An Instagram user previously published her accounts of the night, including that she and a few others climbed up the stage to call on Scott and the staff to stop the show, to no avail.
