Tragic Head-On Crash Claims Eight Lives in Madera County

Eight persons died in a major head-on incident in Madera County on Friday morning (February 23, 2024).

We learned from family members that one of the crash victims was Juvenal Jacobo Talavera, 24, of Michoacán, Mexico, who lived in Kerman.

The Mexican Consulate was called to assist the family.

CHP officers responded to Avenue 7 and Road 22 in La Vina after receiving reports of a two-vehicle crash.

When cops arrived, they found a head-on collision with eight people killed at the scene.

According to initial inquiries, eight adult male farm workers were in the vehicle on their way to work near Firebaugh.

Seven of the passengers were killed in the crash, while one was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to officers, another van was going behind the struck van at the time of the incident.

The third van had family members of the dead, including the driver’s wife, who observed the incident.

There was only one driver in the pickup truck, and he was pronounced deceased at the site.

Avenue 7 remained closed for much of the day. However, CHP reported that all lanes were open around 4:30 p.m.
