Tragedy Strikes: Indiana Man Fatally Injured While Collecting Mail
On Monday evening, an 83-year-old man was killed in a tragic accident near unincorporated Crown Point, Indiana.
The guy was hit by a vehicle in the 13700 block of Chase Street around 5:42 p.m., according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
When rescuers came, they discovered the man stuck under a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. Sadly, despite their attempts, he died as a result of his injuries.
Heartbreaking Accident: Elderly Man Hit While Collecting Mail
Initial investigations indicate to a devastating sequence of events. The elderly man was walking back across the street to his house after collecting his mail.
Something unexpectedly led him to kneel or lean over on the road. At that point, the SUV’s 42-year-old driver detected an object in her path and attempted an emergency stop, but was unable to avoid the crash.
Authorities have stated that neither alcohol nor drugs were involved in this terrible incident. Speeding was also ruled out as a contributing reason to the collision.
