Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the Midwest converged on Des Plaines for the two-day feast and the city was decorated with flowers and enormous tributes to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Over 400,000 people attended the event last year. The festival commemorates the 1531 Marian apparition to San Juan Diego in Mexico City.
Tourists travel by foot, bicycle, and bus to see the holy site. Sunday’s service included Cardinal Blasé Cupich.
Members of the congregation gathered for worship and fellowship. Furthermore, there was the distribution of Holy Communion.
The United States’ greatest annual pilgrimage to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe. There will be many masses, musical performances, dance shows, and meals.
On Monday at 7 p.m., there will be a funeral mass.
