In these hard times, mental health is on everyone’s mind. The American way of life, with its emphasis on constant motion, may be detrimental to our health.
Fortunately, recent research found that an Illinois town was the most prepared to support happy and healthy inhabitants, making it the Best City for Mental Wellness.
Five important indicators of mental health outcomes were carefully analysed across two hundred American communities.
Several Factors to Think About Within Each Standards
In terms of mental health, this section included both the prevalence of reported problems and the availability of treatment centres per 100,000 people.
Health markers such as body mass index, quality of sleep, number of hours worked, alcohol and drug use, and availability of physical health services were investigated in the field of physical wellness (like bike trails).
In a study on the link between mindfulness and social well-being, things like the divorce rate, the number of pets per household, and the availability of places to meditate were looked at.
Housing costs, food insecurity, and the poverty rate were only a few of the issues investigated as part of the Financial Wellness study.
Surroundings, which may include the availability of parks, the safety level, and the amount of sunlight one may expect.
Is there a victorious metropolis? Like other large cities like New York and Los Angeles, Chicago fell in the rankings due to excessive drinking and drug use, as well as lengthy work hours.
Who Comes Out on Top?
Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, beat out the other 199 contenders. Findings show that “a small number of people with bad mental health and low divorce rates put this city at the top of the list.”
When compared to other cities in the same category, Naperville’s 8th place ranking for mental health and wellbeing stands out as excellent. Its position in terms of physical health is a little lower than average, at number 34.
