Officer Jayce Metcalf, who is 25 years old and has been with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 2022, was the one who shot the man.

Around 10:34 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, police were called to the 1400 block of East Harmon Avenue near Maryland Parkway for a report of a guy carrying a knife. That’s when the shooting happened.
The suspect called the police and said he had a knife. The suspect then hung up the phone. Dispatchers called the suspect back, but they couldn’t reach him.
The police then went to the 1400 block of East Harmon Avenue to find the suspect. He was outside of his apartment building when they found him. When Officer Metcalf asked the suspect if he had called 911, the suspect said, “Yes.”
Police say that the suspect had a big knife on him and told him to put it down. Police say the suspect then charged at the cops while holding the knife.
At that point, Officer Metcalf fired his gun. The investigation by the police showed that the cop fired eight shots, four of which hit the suspect.
The suspect was shot, and cops say he briefly fell to the ground and dropped the knife. The suspect then got back up and led cops on foot through the apartment building.
