The Feds Put Up $10 million For Anyone With Key Information About DarkSide Ransomware Group

For information leading to the identification or location of key DarkSide cybercriminals, the US State Department is offering a reward of up to $10 million.

Colonial Pipeline had been the victim of a ransomware attack by DarkSide, federal officials disclosed recently.

Precisely, ransomware attacks against Colonial Pipeline this year were carried out by DarkSide, according to reports.

Additionally, the State Department announced that it will pay up to $5 million in reward money to anyone who submits information that brings anyone who participates in a DarkSide variant ransomware attack to justice.

“In offering this reward, the United States demonstrates its commitment to protecting ransomware victims around the world from exploitation by cybercriminals,” the State Department said in a statement.

Although Colonial spent millions of dollars in Bitcoin to gain control of its computer systems, its pipeline was still shut down forcefully for days.

Later, fuel prices spiked on the East Coast, as a result of the attack, nevertheless, some money was recovered later.
