Texas Governor Greg Abbott has extended the emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for March 2022.
According to the governor’s office, Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will provide the emergency SNAP food benefits totaling $310 million. Over 1.5 million households in Texas will benefit from the allotments.
“These emergency SNAP benefits have helped many Texas families put food on the table over the past two years,” Abbott stated.

From the USDA, HHSC received approval to extend SNAP benefits according to the size of the family. Emergency allotments of $95 will be provided to all SNAP households. Those recipients will see the additional emergency allotment on their accounts by the end of March.
“Putting food on the table is critical for the health and well-being of families and we’re proud to continue helping with these most basic needs,” said Wayne Salter, HHS Deputy Executive Commissioner.
Over $6.13 billion in benefits have already been provided to Texans since April 2020, together with the emergency March allotments.
