Tarrant County School Chiefs Exceed Texas Superintendent Pay

Two statewide school board associations have reported that the salaries of the executives of the Tarrant County school district are higher than the typical income for a superintendent in the state of Texas.

Two organizations in Texas, the Texas Association of School Boards and the Texas Association of School Administrators, have just recently made public the results of their annual poll about superintendent salaries.

In the 2023–24 school year, the median compensation for a superintendent in the state of Texas is $150,000, which is a 0.7% increase from the previous year.

Tarrant County school district leaders earn above Texas’ median superintendent salary:

In order for school districts to gain insight into the patterns in statewide remuneration, the survey is conducted every fall. A total of 736 districts, which is equivalent to 72 percent of all districts in the state, took part in this year’s poll.

“In today’s competitive labor market, it’s important that school board members have the latest compensation data so they can develop a compelling pay and benefits package that will help them recruit or retain the best superintendent for their district,” said Amy Campbell, director of HR Services for the Texas Association of School Boards.

A survey was conducted to investigate compensation based on enrollment. There was a median pay of $349,600 for superintendents in school districts that represented more than 50,000 students.

During the 2022-23 school year, the most recent year for which salaries were made accessible by the Texas Education Agency, only two superintendents in Tarrant County earned more than that.

These superintendents are Marcelo Cavazos of Arlington Independent School District and Michael McFarland of Crowley Independent School District.

Check out some of the latest news from Texas:

Crowley Independent School District has 16,729 students, while Arlington Independent School District has 56,167 kids.

Steven Wurtz has been serving as the temporary superintendent of Arlington Independent School District ever since Cavazos retired in August.

In the middle of December, the Arlington Independent School District school board is anticipated to announce the name of a single finalist for the position of superintendent.

Angélica Ramsey, the superintendent of Fort Worth Independent School District, is in charge of the largest school district in Tarrant County, nonetheless, her income of $337,414 is $12,186 less than the median wage for the major school system. There are around 70,675 pupils enrolled in Fort Worth Independent School District.

In addition, the poll discovered that superintendents remain in their positions for approximately three years.
