Standoff Showdown Macomb County Man in Custody after 11-Hour Face-Off

After an argument with his girlfriend, a “emotionally unstable” Macomb County man was taken into custody early on Sunday morning, according to police, following an hours-long gun standoff with Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies.

According to the authorities, the 35-year-old male from Sterling Heights was being held at the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac while the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant.

According to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the police anticipate that the culprit will “be held accountable” for his deeds.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a house on the 200 block of Heartwood Drive in Commerce Township, near the intersection of Wixom and North Wixom roads, at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Macomb County man arrested after 11-hour standoff with Oakland County Sheriff’s Office:

A press release stated that the deputies were called to a home invasion where the victim, a 34-year-old woman, was attacked by her boyfriend. The woman reported to the police that she had been physically abused by her lover.

She ran away and was discovered by EMS and deputies at a nearby house. She informed the deputies that her boyfriend was drunk at the time of the event and that he was still thought to be at the Heartwood home.

According to the announcement, the female victim also mentioned that the Sterling Heights man was mentally disturbed and had access to firearms in the house.

When deputies arrived at the house, they made an effort to speak with the suspect, who refused to comply with their orders to leave.

When the suspect sensed activity, the deputies ignored them and he barricaded himself in a bedroom close to the back of the house.

About one in the morning, authorities thought the suspect was armed, so they dispatched a SWAT squad to the residence. Before SWAT officers could arrive, the responding deputies surrounded the house with a perimeter.

SWAT negotiators tried to get in touch with the suspect once they arrived at the house but were unable.

About three in the morning, a robot was sent inside the house to try and establish contact and get a sight of the interior. The guy was seen on live video from the robot pacing the house holding what looked to be a weapon.

SWAT team members persisted in giving the subject verbal instructions to surrender, but they were not acknowledged. For several hours, the negotiators persisted in urging the suspect to turn themselves up.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, the man from Sterling Heights finally announced his surrender. He was apprehended without any problems, and the house was examined.

According to the press release, Bouchard stated, “I greatly appreciate the work of our team and their professionalism to bring this very dangerous situation to close without anyone being seriously injured or killed,” “Thank you to the Michigan State Police for sending personnel to relieve SWAT Team Members as the standoff continued for several hours.”
