The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi is planning to run for reelection in 2022 and may also hold a leadership role when the next Congress convenes after the midterm election, CNN is reporting.
First elected into congress more than a decade ago, winning the election in 2022 will precede an 18th full-term for Pelosi who is the first woman to hold the gavel as a speaker.
Pelosi, 82, suggested she would not run as speaker again after she secured Democratic caucus nomination to lead the House in 2020 when she said she would abide by an agreement to put limits on leadership roles and committee chairs.

Pelosi’s ability to get the job done — and the way she’s stood up to the GOP, including former President Donald Trump, who was twice impeached by the House — that could be a factor in a decision to keep her as the leader of her party in Congress, particularly if Republicans take back the majority in the House next year.
“She has a trust among Democrats,” Rep. Ro Khanna, a fellow California Democrat, tells CNN. “They trust her judgment, and they trust her skill. Anyone who comes after her is going to have to earn that trust.”
