Social Security: New Executive Order Will Make Obtaining Benefits Easily

President Joe Biden has signed a new administrative order demanding the Social Security Administration (SSA) to make immediate changes to simplify obtaining benefits. But what exactly is a streamlined Social Security application process?

According to the White House, the order directs the SSA to create a mobile-accessible, online process so that anyone applying for or receiving Social Security services can upload forms, documentation, evidence, or correspondence related to their transaction without the need for service-specific tools or travel to a field office.

It would bring much-needed updates to a system that has rarely given citizens the option of accessing important benefits, news, or applications from the comfort of their mobile phones.

According to the White House, the order will also remove any requirement that public members provide physical signatures for Social Security-related regulations, forms, instructions, or other sources of guidance.

The executive order will also assist applicants and beneficiaries in identifying other benefits for which they may be eligible and integrating SSA data and processes with those of other Federal and State entities as much as possible.

It means that once you apply for Social Security benefits, your information will be automatically pooled to determine what other federal benefits if any, you may be eligible for.

The executive order is officially titled “Executive Order on Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government,” with service delivery referring to actions taken by the government to provide a benefit or service to a federal government agency’s customer.

It pertains to Social Security through requests for documents such as a passport or Social Security card. Generally, the order seeks to enhance long-awaited adaptations to government agents that have caused problems.

Another feature that will be added is renewing a passport without having to mail in any physical documents. This process could have previously taken over a month and required mailing in your passport.
