Retired Military Personnel Will Receive Largest Cost of Living Pay in Last 40 Years

Several military retirees will notice a significant boost in their cost of living wage the following year. On November 19, the Department of Defense declared modifications to a yearly cost of living figures for 2022. The DoD said that this is the biggest jump in this pay as in 1982.

According to the DoD, the greatest military retirees will get a 5.9% increase in isolated pay starting January 1, 2022. Moreover, in most instances, survivors of members who fell on working or idle duty or descendants of army retirees who engage in the Survivors Benefit Plan will mark a 5.9% rise to annuities.

Survivors available for the Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance will further get an addition to their SSIA fees that indicates this 5.9% adjustment. 

Starting in January, the highest amount of SSIA payable will be $346. Those who separated in 2021 and followed the REDUX retirement arrangement may get somewhat complex arrangements. 

Cost of living arrangements for those who initially became divisions of Uninformed Service on or following September 8. 1980, incorporated those reported by the High-3 or Blended Retirement System is defined below:

  • October 1 to December 31, 2021, 0.0% boost
  • Before January 1, 2021, 5.9% rise
  • July 1 to September 30, 2021, 1.8% boost
  • January 1 to March 31, 2021, 5.7% increase
  • April 1 to June 30, 2021, 4.4% boost

The retired return for those who initially became portions of a Uniformed Service on or after August 1, 1986, and further supports a professional status reward is defined according to the day of their retirement:

  • October 1 to December 31, 2021, 0.0% rise
  • Before January 1, 2021, 4.9% increase
  • July 1 to September 30, 2021, 1.5% increase
  • April 1 to June 30, 2021, 3.9% rise
  • January 1 to March 31, 2021, 4.9% boost

Cost of living benefits is determined depending on the Consumer Price Index for Clerical Workers for the four points, which finished with the third calendar portion of 2021.
