Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will be debated before the UN General Assembly on Monday, after the UN Security Council decided Sunday to schedule a special session.
Only 11 times since 1950 has the General Assembly held a special session to address a crisis.

Only Russia, one of the 15 member nations, cast a dissenting vote, but the country was unable to use its veto to block the move.
In a vote on a draught UN Security Council resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Friday, China, India, and the United Arab Emirates abstained as they did. Despite the veto of Russia, the resolution had the backing of 87 nations, including the same 11 Security Council members.
