The campuses of at least six historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) were evacuated and police investigations were launched Monday morning following bomb threats
According to Thehill and university statements, Bowie State University, Southern University, Bethune-Cookman University, Albany State University, Howard University and Delaware State University all received bomb threats Monday morning.
According to a security alert sent to the school, Howard University received a bomb threat around 4:35 a.m. The administration building is under investigation by police currently.
According to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department, the “scene has been cleared with no hazardous materials found,” according to CNN.
Due to the threats, other universities are on lockdown or closed.
On Monday morning, Maryland’s Bowie State University tweeted that it was temporarily closing its campus because of a bomb threat.
“Emergency personnel are evaluating the situation,” the university stated.
Daytona Beach Police also confirmed Bethune Cookman University’s lockdown on Twitter, saying they would release information as soon as possible.

A bomb threat forced Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., to suspend operations Monday.
“Classes have been canceled and students are to remain in their dorm rooms until an all-clear is issued,” the university tweeted.
Albany State University in a statement reported that law enforcement had been notified of a bomb threat to the academic buildings.
The university’s Albany, Ga., campus has also been closed until an all-clear message has been given.
Multiple HBCUs, including Howard University, were evacuated Monday after receiving a bomb threat for the second time this month.
