According to police in Los Angeles, California, a man shot and injured another person who approached him after he was accused of assaulting a dog. In a KTTV report, authorities stated that Saalih Mousa, 21, is charged with one count of attempted murder.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday, two people were strolling in the area of La Brea and Willoughby Avenues, near the Poinsettia Recreation Center, when they were approached by officers. According to police, they observed Mousa hitting a dog on an apartment balcony.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, “the witnesses yelled at the suspect to let go of the dog.” In response, the suspect produced an unknown sort of firearm and fired at the witnesses, striking one of them.
The individual was rushed to the hospital, where the person is said to be in stable condition at the time.
Mousa is accused of fleeing the scene, but police say he has been apprehended and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Athena Mansour, his girlfriend of 20 years, was taken into custody and first charged with being an accessory after the fact.
She was initially detained in lieu of a $500,000 bond, but prosecutors ultimately opted not to pursue a criminal case against her and instead issued her a citation instead of charging her. According to police, she was released on Thursday.
Cash and Dinero, two French bulldogs were discovered at the site, according to police. They were turned over to what the police described as a responsible entity associated with Mansour’s activities.
