After a four-year break, two 15-year-old giant pandas, at last, discovered the pleasure and tallied a new draw for one of Tokyo’s most prominent visitor attractions. It was a propitious omen, as the enormous panda shimmied into a handstand and peed upside-down facing a tree.
Nearly four years had gone by following Ri Ri, a 15-year-old male, last mated with his companion, Shin Shin, also 15, at Japan’s oldest zoo. Yutaka Fukuda, the zoo’s administrator, called the double deliveries a joyous astonishment.“When the initial one was born, I was relieved,” Mr. Fukuda said during a news interview on Wednesday morning. “When I accepted a statement about the second one, I was startled and extremely happy.”
A spokesperson for the zoo, Naoya Ohashi, said that when pandas have doubles, they usually support only one of them, so the zookeepers are making certain that the mom breastfeeds one while the other waits in an incubator.
They intend to exchange the young out from time to time so that they both encounter natural feeding. Today, China allows pandas to other countries only as 10-year mortgages, with all children supposed to be Chinese property. There are about 1,800 giant pandas in the wild in China, as well as about 500 in detention around the globe.
