The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) provides funds to assist low-income households with water and wastewater bills.
LIHWAP grants are available to States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, U.S. Territories, and Federally and state-recognized Indian Tribes and tribal organizations that received fiscal year 2021 Low Income Household Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grants.

In Ohio, the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program began Oct. 27 and will run through Sept. 30, 2022.
The Ohio Department of Development and HARCATUS Tri-County Community Action Organization Inc. will help income-eligible Ohioans with water and wastewater assistance. The program provides eligible Ohio residents assistance paying water and wastewater bills.
Apart from this, Ohio also offers assistance programs to help low income Ohioans meet their basic needs. Programs include Medicaid, food and cash assistance, publicly funded child care, and more.
Additionally, they also offer The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) which helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs.

The state provide federally funded assistance in managing costs associated with home energy bills, energy crises, weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs.
“LIHEAP can help you stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer through programs that reduce the risk of health and safety problems that arise from unsafe heating and cooling practices,” it says on their website.

Clients need to bring copies of the following documents to their appointment:
—Copies of their most recent water/wastewater bills;
—A list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member;
—Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members, and
—Proof of disability (if applicable).
