NU Student’s Corpse Found in Diversey Harbor

The body of a missing Ph.D. student from Northwestern University was found in Diversey Harbor on Tuesday evening.

The police marine unit recovered the corpse from the bay between Cannon and Fullerton roads at approximately 5:15 p.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Peter Salvino, 25, who went missing over the weekend.

Searching for Salvino

Lincoln Park alleyways were checked Monday night in the cold.

Salvino disappeared Saturday night. The 25-year-old was seen at The Wieners Circle, 2622 N. Clark St., before attending a home party with pals. The eatery uploaded Salvino surveillance photographs.

Police say Salvino last spoke on FaceTime early Sunday. He attended the party in the 2400 block of North Geneva Terrace but never returned home.

The corpse was located late Tuesday in Diversey Harbor, less than a mile east of Salvino’s last sighting. Friends and relatives explored Diversey Harbor until the terrible discovery.

Three detectives reported Area Salvino missing.Friends and relatives didn’t want it replaced with “located.”

Salvino’s cause of death and foul play were unknown as of Tuesday. Autopsies affect case outcomes.

Salvino’s family must cope with the worst consequence, particularly so close to the holidays.
