No motive provided after Elgin man charged in brother’s death

On Wednesday, authorities announced the $1 million bail for an Elgin man accused of murdering his brother.

According to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office, Juan Hernandez, 44, is accused of stabbing his brother Gerardo, 33, multiple times on or around December 17 at their shared home.

The release stated that Hernandez had been charged with first-degree murder, armed violence, and aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. On Wednesday, a judge ordered $100,000 in cash bail for Hernandez while his case is pending. On January 5th, he will appear in court again.
