New York’s Central Park Antisemitic Attack Leaves One Man Injured

The NYPD says that on Wednesday, a 63-year-old man was assaulted in Central Park in what appears to have been an antisemitic attack. In the park, the victim was walking when another man, also in his forties, allegedly attacked him from behind, causing him to fall, break his hand, and chip a tooth.

After hurling antisemitic slurs and “Kanye 2024” at the victim, the suspect rode off on a bicycle with a trailer bearing the words “Hungry Disabled,” as reported by the police.
Law enforcement officials are appealing to the general public for help in identifying the assailant, who remains at large. Authorities report that the victim’s condition is stable at this time

New York City police described the suspect as a white man riding a bicycle while carrying several items. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket, a multicolored hat, beige pants, and white sneakers.

Crimes like these have a ripple effect across communities and cause unique trauma on top of physical harm

After allegedly attacking a 63-year-old man in Central Park on Wednesday, the suspect reportedly rode off on a bicycle with a trailer attached, according to the NYPD. A regional director for the Anti-Defamation League in New York/New Jersey, Scott Richman, told the press that “crimes like these have a ripple effect across communities and cause unique trauma on top of physical harm.”

According to Richman, the incident shows how rapper Kanye West’s antisemitic words have inspired and encouraged more acts of violence. People will imitate it and think it’s normal when public figures with massive platforms fan the flames of antisemitism, he said.
