Near-West Side Tow Truck Driver Shot, Killed

On Sunday night’s Near West Side, a tow truck driver was killed after being caught in the crossfire, according to Chicago police. Around 10:45 p.m., two automobiles in the 1900-block of West Fulton Street reportedly started firing at each other while a 49-year-old man was operating a tow truck traveling west. He was later recognized as Hector Negron by the medical examiner.

At the junction of Fulton and Damen, Negron was caught between them, struck in the left armpit, and smashed into a bus stop pole. Edwin Rivera, a colleague, said he’d known Negron for 20 years, but he’d only been at ASAP Towing for two weeks.

This man, who is approaching 50 years old, is one of the greatest, most admirable men, according to Rivera. Negron was reportedly traveling home when the incident took place, according to Rivera. Rivera replied, “It can happen to anyone, it can happen to any of us right now.

After the incident, he was reportedly brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition; however, he passed away there.

After the incident, he was reportedly brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition; however, he passed away there. His former coworkers are now worried for their safety after being horrified by the event.

Because if I don’t come out here, I’ll be at home not working, Rivera said. “I’m a grown man, but I gotta come out here and kind of disregard the fact that I’m a little terrified to come out here.” As Area 3 detectives continue their inquiry, police stated that they are still hunting for the suspects.
