The people he was with fled after the shooting, and the police didn’t know who he was.
The incident happened on Sunday around 12:46 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Plymouth. The young man looks to be in his late twenties or early thirties. According to Chicago police, the young man died from gunshot wounds to the chest and face.
A nearby resident reported seeing a woman and her child run past the victim as the rest of the group fled the scene. Police detained a few group members on the Roosevelt Orange Line platform, but no arrests were made, according to CPD.
According to neighbors, the same group started congregating on school grounds a few nights ago, but authorities did not respond to 911 calls about them.
“This group had started gathering here several nights ago,” a nearby resident said. “Police were called every night, including this evening, but no one showed up.” He stated that the group was loitering on the school grounds.
“The victim was shot and killed on Plymouth between the playground entrance and the school drop-off.” Kids congregate with their parents in the exact location of the body.”
