Next week, during his brief visit to the United States, French President Emmanuel Macron will stop in New Orleans, making him the first French leader to do so in more than 45 years.
According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, Macron is just the third French president to visit the former colony of Louisiana, following Charles de Gaulle in 1941 and Valéry Giscard d’Estaing in 1976.
Le Figaro reports that he will meet with Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D) to address climate change issues and that he plans to launch a fund to boost French language instruction in American classrooms. Also, Macron will visit New Orleans’ renowned French Quarter.
His first two days in the country will be spent meeting with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and other important officials in Washington.
The last time Macron visited the United States was in 2018, under the presidency of former President Trump.
