After discovering a family of four dead inside their Lorain home on Sunday, police are investigating the possibility of a murder-suicide.
According to Lt. Jacob Morris, a spokesman for the Lorain Police Department, officers discovered 29-year-old Tyler Young on the living floor with a gunshot wound to his head and a pistol next to him when they entered the home at Broadway Avenue and East 9th Street to do a wellness check.
Police believe Tyler Young shot himself after killing his wife, Skylar Young, 24, their son, Bandin Young, 4, months old, and Skylar Young’s daughter, Angel Isaac, 9. The shooting is still under investigation.
Morris stated, “The shooting is still under investigation, and we have no final ruling, but we are not looking for any other suspects,”
The gunshots are expected to have occurred on Sunday between the hours of one and ten in the morning. Late on Sunday morning, neighbors reported canines that they knew belonged to the Youngs to the police.
The Youngs’ home’s upper door was open when police arrived to the apartment, which is how they found the bodies. There were no 9-1-1 calls from neighbors reporting gunshots to the police.

Morris claims that Tyler and Skylar Young had a previous domestic incident in May. After Tyler Young was accused of choking and slapping Skylar Young, police were called to a business parking lot.
Tyler Young was detained by the police and accused of strangulation; nevertheless, he was found not guilty. In June, Skylar Young took back her assertion. When the incident occurred, she was expecting Bandin Young.
Although they do not suspect a reason for the shooting, police think mental health issues were a factor in the event. Tyler Young’s family had previously told the authorities that he was experiencing periods of schizophrenia and that his mental health was worsening.
Three firearms, including the one Tyler Young used to shoot himself and his family, were also found in the house by the police.
Morris stated that because of stress and emotions, the police department usually sees a rise in other crimes, including domestic violence, during the holidays.
“I’m a father and a police officer,” Morris said. “When I think about mourning families, I try to think what else can I do to help? Or how can I make sure this never happens again.”
The Lorain County Coroner’s Office will support the investigative efforts of the police.
