The Lone Star Card is the method used by Texas to distribute SNAP benefits.
You can use this card in any store that accepts SNAP benefit payments the same way you would use a credit card or debit card. It is similar to the EBT cards that other states use.
According to Yahoo, Lone Star Cardholders are able to purchase fresh groceries, vegetables, dairy products, meats, and poultry. Garden seeds can even be purchased with a Lone Star Card.
These SNAP, however, are not eligible for:
- Purchase tobacco.
- Buy alcoholic drinks.
-
Purchase un-eatable things.
- Pay off food bills.
To qualify for SNAP benefits, most Texas residents aged 16 to 59 must meet certain work requirements.

For an individual to qualify, he or she must be seeking employment or enrolled in a work program that has been approved.
In the event the person already has a job, he or she cannot quit without good reason and receive SNAP benefits.
You’ll receive your benefits over 15 days, starting on the 1st and based on the last digit of your Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number.
