Lakeport Stabbing Suspect Shot and Killed by Sheriff’s Deputies
Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a man suspected of stabbing someone in Lakeport by sheriff’s officers on Thursday afternoon.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has not released the man’s name since the inquiry is still in its early stages.
According to Lauren Berlinn, the sheriff’s office’s public relations officer, deputies responded to the 100 block of Dixon Drive in Lakeport after receiving complaints of a knife assault by a male individual.
Deputies arrived on the scene and spoke with the suspect, who had a handgun at the time, according to Berlinn.
She stated that deputies made numerous attempts to diffuse and de-escalate the situation, but the subject refused to comply.
Medical professionals were called after shots were fired. According to Berlinn, the person was declared dead at the spot.
According to Berlinn, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the site Thursday afternoon and was working with the Lake County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the event.
According to Lake County’s Critical Incident Protocol, the Lake County District Attorney’s Office is the lead investigative agency, according to Berlinn.
Berlinn stated that the information released on Thursday afternoon was based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which is still evolving as detectives interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and evaluate forensic evidence.
“The department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed,” Berliner said.
