California’s Efforts Against Underage Drinking: Grant Funding for Police Departments
ABC aims to ensure alcoholic beverage compliance among licensees and delivery services, especially during high-drinking holiday periods. The grant focuses on preventing underage alcohol purchases and enforcing alcohol-related laws.
Lakeport City Council approved Police Chief Brad Rasmussen’s request to partner with ABC for the grant. The city’s aim was to secure $10,000 to aid in enforcing alcohol-related statutes.
Officer Todd Freitas highlighted that Lakeport, with approximately 34 licensees, faces alcohol-related challenges.
The police department had recorded 100 alcohol-related statute violations so far that year, contributing to a significant portion of service calls.
The funds support education for voluntary compliance and working with merchants to adhere to alcohol sales regulations. The primary focus remains on preventing youth access to alcohol.
