Lake County Deputy’s Encounter With A Meat Cleaver-Wielding Man In Unincorp!
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy shot a man who lunged at him with a meat cleaver.
Just after 4 p.m., the sheriff’s office was called to a home in the unincorporated area of Round Lake’s 34200 block of Barberry Court because someone said a guy was bleeding and should get help. Police said the person who called 911 thought a family member of her friend had ki!!ed himself.
When the cops got there, they found a man on a mattress in the living room who was not breathing or moving. There was a “significant amount” of blood around him.
The sheriff’s office said that a deputy checked his pulse and saw that it was beating. He then began to take off his clothes to find his cuts and give him medical help. Police say the man woke up, grabbed a meat knife that was next to him, and lunged at the deputy while he was trying to save his life.

Right away, the deputy and someone else in the house jumped away, but the man with the meat cleaver charged at them. Police say the officer shot the man.
“The deputy and another person in the house retreated right away, tried to get out of the area and back to a stairwell so they could go down the stairs and outside. However the man was lunging toward them with the meat cleaver in his hand and the deputy discharged the firearm at the man,” said Spokesman Chris Covelli.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital in terrible shape, but he did not make it. The deputy was also taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is looking into it. There was no more information available right away.
