L.A. County Tops The List of Mexican Restaurants In The U.S.

According to a new Pew Research Center study, Los Angeles County has the most Mexican eateries in the country, with over 5,000.

According to the analysis, which is based on data from SafeGraph and Yelp, approximately 11% of restaurants in the United States serve Mexican food, and 85% of U.S. counties have at least one Mexican restaurant.

The study also discovered that the majority of Mexican restaurants are centered in the two most populous states in America: California and Texas.

They account for 40% of all Mexican restaurants in the country, with California edging out Texas with a 22% share versus 17%.

L.A. County Dominates The State And The Nation

With 5,484 entries in the analysis, L.A. County stands out as the heart of Mexican food in California, accounting for 30% of the state’s Mexican eateries. The second-highest total in the country was 2,362 in Harris County, Texas.

Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles County serve a wide range of dishes, from tacos and burritos to mole and pozole, reflecting the region’s Mexican-American population and culture.

Mexican Food Is More Prevalent In Some States Than Others

While California has the most Mexican restaurants in the country, New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona have a more significant percentage.

New Mexico has 22% of its restaurants serving Mexican cuisine, compared to 20% in Texas, 18% in Arizona, and 17% in California.

There are also ten counties in the country where Mexican restaurants account for more than 33% of all eateries, the majority of which are in Texas and along the US-Mexico border.

These countries represent the two countries’ historical and cultural ties, as well as the popularity and accessibility of Mexican gastronomy.
