Juvenile Charged With Shooting And Killing 60-Year-Old Man

A teen has been charged as an ad*lt after officials say he shot and ki!!ed a 60-year-old man in a Waukegan parking lot over a small argument. At 11:45 p.m. on August 18, the Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department were called to the 1600 block of Kayla Lane because there had been a shooting.

Several people who called 911 said they heard shots and saw a person get shot. Mark Glover, 60, of Zion, was badly hurt in the parking lot of the Northgate Apartments when police came. Glover had been hit multiple times and was not breathing or awake.

Officers did what they could to save Glover’s life until paramedics came. A police report said that the cops used two tourniquets and CPR on him. The report said that paramedics took Glover to the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he had surgery.

Glover was found to have no brain activity on August 24, and two days later, he was formally declared dead. Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said that an exam showed that Glover died from complications caused by his multiple gunshot wounds.

Ansuar Castro-Rivera, who was 17 years old, was named as the suspect in the case by the court. Castro-Rivera has been charged with three counts of m*rder in the first degree, and a warrant for his arrest was issued last week.

Jeffrey Facklam, an assistant state’s attorney in Lake County, said that Castro-Rivera was with a group of people on a patio the night of the m*rder. Castro-Rivera and Glover had a “small fight,” and Facklam said that they went out into the parking lot of the apartment complex. Facklam said that a surveillance film showed that Castro-Rivera and Glover walked into the parking lot together.

Facklam said that Castro-Rivera shot away from Glover and that Glover then moved toward Castro-Rivera. Facklam said that Castro-Rivera shot at Glover several times and hit him. Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said that at 8:11 a.m. on August 23 in the area of Elmwood and Ballentine, a police officer stopped a car that had broken a traffic law.

In the car, police found cannabis, open booze, and two loaded guns. Castro-Rivera and another 17-year-old who was also in the car were both caught and taken to the police station. Chastain said that one of the guns that were found was sent to the Northern Illinois Crime Lab to be looked at. Chastain said that it was a match for the shells that were found at the m*rder scene.

Prosecutors asked to keep Castro-Rivera in jail until his trial. Castro-Rivera’s public attorney, Jillian Kassel, said in court that she didn’t think prosecutors had shown that Castro-Rivera was a real and present danger to others. Kassel said that the surveillance video in the case showed that Castro-Rivera was the one leaving the fight and the victim was following him.

Castro-Rivera was acting in self-defense, the public defender also said. During a detention hearing on Monday, Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak gave the order to keep Castro-Rivera in jail. Castro-Rivera is being held at the Robert W. Depke Juvenile Complex Center in Vernon Hills. He is being charged as an ad*lt. On October 24, he will go back to court again for a preliminary hearing.
