The Graves County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a two-vehicle collision that resulted in injuries on Wednesday night. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were called to a two-vehicle injury incident on US 45 South and KY 80 at approximately 5:20 p.m. on January 3. Within minutes of the call, Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince and Deputy Zac Smith arrived.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation revealed that Jimmy Etheridge, 79, of Reagan, Tennessee, was driving a 2002 Nissan SUV north on US 45. When Etheridge arrived at the KY 80 and US 45 crossing, the traffic light for northbound traffic was red.
Etheridge struck the driver’s door of a 2005 Chevrolet vehicle driven by Batesville, Arkansas, resident Christian Mendoza, 23, as he approached the junction.
Etheridge’s car spun around in the collision and came to rest on the north side of the intersection. After the crash, Mendoza was able to maneuver his car into the westbound shoulder of the road.
At the scene, Etheridge made no complaints about injuries. However, 49-year-old Mary A. Hayes of Sardis, Tennessee, who was a passenger in Etheridge’s car, sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to Mercy Health Paducah by Mayfield/Graves County EMS.

Mendoza did not ask to be taken to a hospital; instead, he was treated for mild arm pain on the spot. The 59-year-old Batesville resident Faustino Molina was not hurt in the crash while riding in Mendoza’s car.
Etheridge received a citation for disobeying a traffic control device and having an open alcohol bottle in her car. Deputy Smith is carrying out additional research into this collision.
