I-45 Southbound Tragedy: Freeway Closure Lasts 4 Hours!!

A terrible accident happened early on Friday morning on the I-45 Gulf Freeway close to downtown Houston, causing major delays in local traffic. The Houston Police Department reports that a man was killed when he was hit by a car as he crossed the interstate near Memorial Drive.

Due to this terrible accident, both southbound lanes were closed, causing significant delays for morning commuters. According to Houston Transtar, the freeway situation began to improve at 10:30 a.m. when all lanes reopened.

A black Ford F-150 was the suspected offending vehicle. After the collision, the Ford driver stayed at the scene to help the police. The motorist tested negative for alcohol and other drug use after further interrogation by officials.

The Houston Police Department opted against immediately charging the driver. The age and name of the pedestrian who was killed have not yet been released to the public. The Houston Police Department is still looking into the collision in depth to see whether or not criminal charges are needed.
