The coroner has named the 38-year-old man who died when he crashed his car into parked cars at high speed, hurting a person on the sidewalk. He was trying to get away from a home invasion in Round Lake Beach.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said that Lamar Chargois, 38, of Decatur, died from direct force injuries he got in a car accident. An autopsy was done on Thursday.
Around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, someone called the Round Lake Beach Police Department to report that their home had been broken into in the 100 block of Beachview Drive.
According to the cops, the person who called 911 said a man was trying to get into the house. Officers were also told that the person trying to get into the house had a relationship with the person who lived there before.
After the cops were called, Chargois is said to have left the property in a 2010 Nissan. As police arrived, they saw the 2010 Nissan driving west on Rollins Road as it tried to get away.
When police tried to stop the Nissan with their emergency lights on, Chargois sped off very quickly. Police said that officers didn’t go after it because they were worried about safety with all the cars on Rollins Road.
The Nissan kept going fast on Rollins Road until it went off the road near Lotus Drive and hit two for-sale cars that were parked in the 800 block of West Rollins Road.

While a 55-year-old man was looking at the parked cars for sale, one of the cars hit him and spun into him when the Nissan hit the cars. The impact was so strong that it threw the man into the road.
After the crash, Chargois couldn’t do anything. He was stuck inside the car and was declared dead at the scene. The 55-year-old walker who was hurt in the accident was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. No one knew how he was doing.
The road was closed for several hours while the police looked into what happened. Police from Round Lake Beach and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) are looking into the crash.
