Authorities stated on Monday that a car struck and killed a person who was waiting outside of a vehicle after it crashed on state Highway 13 in Oakland on Sunday night. The other vehicle then left the area.
Dispatchers were notified at 10:46 p.m. on Sunday by the California Highway Patrol of a non-injury collision involving two vehicles on southbound Highway 13 south of Joaquin Miller Road/Lincoln Avenue. A black vehicle and a white Toyota “Zip Car” rental were involved in the collision.
CHP INVESTIGATES FATAL HIT-AND-RUN CRASH IN OAKLAND:
According to the CHP, the driver and passenger of the Toyota exited the car and stood close to where the Toyota had come to rest, blocking the slow lane. Responding police were alerted to a second incident involving a car and a pedestrian at the same spot, according to the CHP, four minutes later.
The CHP stated that when a second black car approached the disabled Toyota, it braked and veered to the right, missing the Toyota but hitting the passenger who was standing outside of it. It was discovered that the passenger of the Toyota was standing on the right shoulder.

According to the CHP, the second black vehicle kept driving without stopping. The struck passenger passed away at the spot from his wounds.
Information regarding the driver or the suspicious car was nonexistent. The black automobile that struck the pedestrian would have had serious damage to its front windshield, hood, and/or bumper.
