Hit-and-Run Accident In Los Angeles-Young Man Was Killed

On Monday, a hit-and-run accident was reported by the South Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The Unfortunate Incident Happened At the Intersection of DeSoto Avenue and Vanowen Street

The police are looking for the driver who abandoned him there. The accident happened at the intersection of DeSoto Avenue and Vanowen Street at about 12:30. A black Dodge Ram truck, according to their probe, crashed into a Lexus after the driver disregarded a red light. Officer Lizeth Lomeli of the Los Angeles Police Department reported to City News Service that the Lexus driver was killed when his vehicle collided with a telephone pole during a traffic collision.

LAPD Capt. Andy Neiman that the driver was going over 80 mph when the accident occurred and that the airbags in the Dodge had deployed. According to Lomeli and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, the Lexus driver, 20-year-old Nelson Castaneda of Canoga Park, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dodge Ram driver allegedly left the scene without helping the victim or identifying himself to the police.

Police In Search of The Suspected Driver

The accident scene was littered with debris. Both cars stayed at the location of the collision on Vanowen Street and De Soto Avenue, but police believe the suspect got out and ran.
Captain Andrew Nieman of the Los Angeles Police Department elaborated, “Our victim was almost across the intersection by the time he got hit.” The suspect reportedly got out of a rolled-over car and ran south on De Soto Avenue.

“We have some video evidence of that and other witness statements that led to us conducting an active search,” said Nieman. Bloodhounds were assisting search teams as they combed a three-block area for a male suspect, who was last seen wearing all black and was thought to be in his twenties. At about 5 a.m, Police ended the search.
