Grand Jury Convicts Brothers In M*rder Plot Targeting Mother of 4!

A pair of brothers were found guilty by a federal grand jury in the m*rder-for-hire scheme that claimed the life of one of their former wives in 2017. On November 27, 2017, Sara Starr, a 36-year-old mother of four, passed away. Her m*rder, according to the prosecution, was motivated by a desire to escape paying her and her children more than $3,000 in monthly maintenance.

Sara Starr was ki!!ed by two point-blank shotgun rounds as she left her remote Coffee County, Alabama house. It took a grand jury four years to indict her ex-husband and his brother.

“Someone finally listened to us,” Dena Luchi, a family friend of the victim, said.

After a jury determined that Sara Starr’s ex-husband Jason Starr and his brother Darin had planned to m*rder the mother of four, Luchi spoke on behalf of the victim’s family.

“Justice has been served,” Luchi said.

“The evidence that we produced for the jurors was clearly quite compelling,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Wendell said.

According to court records, Jason Starr, 50, of Coffee Springs, Alabama, and his former wife Sara went through a divorce in 2017. A judge gave Sara Starr a sizable share of Jason Starr’s salary.

From September 2017 through November 2017, shortly after the divorce, Jason Starr gave his 54-year-old brother Darin Starr of Lakehills, Texas, a little over $2,600. Northwest of San Antonio in Bandera County is Lakehills.

Darin Starr’s cell phone records revealed that he made a trip from Texas to Coffee County right before Thanksgiving in 2017 and was frequently extremely close to the residence of his brother’s ex-wife.

According to court documents, Darin Starr turned his phone back on at approximately 8 a.m. while traveling back to Texas on Interstate 10. In reaching its judgment, the jury found that Jason Starr’s brother received the money as compensation for ki!!ing his ex-wife. “Some people thought they were smarter than police officials and they weren’t,” Luchi said.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jason and Darin Starr will be sentenced soon. Due to their convictions, both face life without the possibility of parole.

“The tragedy endured by the victim’s family is unthinkable,” U.S. Attorney Sandra J. Stewart said. “I am grateful for the hard work of all the investigating agencies in this case. Their efforts resulted in bringing Jason and Darin Starr to justice.”
