Good news for Maryland Residents: Marylanders can now get donated equipment — such as wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, scooters, and even pediatric equipment that have been sanitized and repaired — at no cost.
This is because of the Maryland Durable Medical Equipment Re-Use Program, which aims to improve the quality of life for many Maryland residents and provides them the opportunity to avoid costlier levels of care.
To help in this program, you may also donate supplies. The Program accepts durable and homes medical equipment that can be refurbished and given to someone in need.
You can donate the following: Hospital beds, wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, power scooters, mechanical “Hoyer” lifts, lift chairs, sit to stand lifts, walkers, medical reclining “Geri chairs”, rollators, shower chairs, tub transfer benches, toilet safety rails, canes, crutches, commodes, lift chairs, and overbed tables.
However, the program does not accept any heavily soiled or corroded equipment, stairlifts, respiratory equipment (oxygen machines and tanks, CPAP’s, suction machines, etc.), orthopedic braces such as walker boots and back braces, non-medical items such as standard household beds, household furniture or clothing.
All equipment is transported to our Re-Use Center in Cheltenham, Maryland where it is sanitized, inspected, repaired if necessary, then put into inventory to later be distributed to individuals in need.
