The 23-year-old former America’s Got Talent contestant, Skilyr Hicks, has passed away.
Hicks’ mother, Jodi, announced the tragic news.
In a home at Liberty, North Carolina, Jodi reported finding her daughter dead on Monday.
TMZ reported that the property belonged to Hicks’ friend, but Jodi has no idea who owns it.
In the news publication, Jodi paid tribute to her daughter, saying: ‘She will live on through her music.’
Currently, the cause of her death remains unknown.
However, the mother of Hicks reported that her daughter suffered from substance abuse and mental health issues.
As a 14-year-old teenager, Hicks auditioned for Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern on America’s Got Talent in 2013.
During the audition, she performed an original song called Brand New Day with her guitar.

The grieving process following the death of her father inspired Hicks to learn how to play the guitar on her own.
At the audition, four judges gave Hicks a yes at American Got Talent, so she advanced to the next round.
However, Hicks was eliminated prior to the live show in New York City.
Jodi added that her daughter, who had four siblings, got along well with her family, and that she used her art to help others in need.
