For Two Years, The Alexandria Guaranteed Income Program Will Give Participants $500 Each Month

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — A pilot program in Alexandria will begin soon. It will provide select residents with $500 per month for two years.

The Virginia city announced Thursday. That the Recurring Income for Success and Equity (ARISE) program in Alexandria would accept applications online from October 31 to November 9, 2022.

The program will choose 170 eligible applicants at random and give them $500 every month for 24 months to spend however they see fit.

According to a news release, these pilot programs have demonstrated an impact on poverty and economic inequity. ARISE will allow the city to put a daring approach to ensuring People have the information they require to make decisions that will benefit their health and way of life to the test.

“We provide financial resources to individuals and families so they can decide how best to meet the needs in their lives,” said Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson. “We’re developing this one-of-a-kind program to improve how we help our neighbors in need.” That is the purpose of ARISE.”

There are no requirements for citizenship or work to be eligible. Residents must be at least 18 years old. They must have an income of 50% or less. The area median income is required to qualify.

All eligible residents are encouraged to apply for additional income.
