Feds Seize Private Plane Containing Cocaine, Makes Three Arrests Subsequently

In River North and Gold Coast, federal agents seized 100 kilos of cocaine last week, authorities said.

For some time now, the Gary-Indiana airport has appeared to be a conduit for drugs traveling from Mexico to Chicago, according to federal officials.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, drugs were brought into Gary Indiana on a private plane that was prior loaded with suitcases in Mexico before the flight.

One vehicle found in River North had 80 kilograms of cocaine, and a hotel room in the North Side had 20 kilograms.

There have been three arrests so far and the plane, Bombardier Challenger 600, has been seized.

A 30-year-old man from Toluca de Lerdo, Mexico, and a 25-year-old man from Columbus, Indiana were arrested last Wednesday in downtown Chicago.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old Sergio Ivan Blas of Indianapolis, Indiana was arrested too last Thursday afternoon.

Jimenez-Perez, one of three men who were arrested last week, appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon.

The federal prosecutor explained to the judge how the ‘cache’ landed in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago.

As an illegal immigrant in the US, Rodrigo Alexis Jimenez-Perez, said in court on Tuesday that he did not know 80 kilograms of cocaine were inside the vehicle he was driving.

Abruptly, the judge rejected such a premise, stating that it was impossible to believe that a multimillion-dollar organization would entrust such assets to a person who had no idea what existed in it (the plane).

Vazquez-Gamez is one of the three perpetrators scheduled to appear in court later on Wednesday.
