Poinciana Man Killed In 5-Vehicle Crash On US

A five-vehicle collision on U.S. 17-92 near Haines City on Wednesday resulted in the death of a 32-year-old Poinciana man. Around 5:30 p.m., the collision happened close to Dyson Road.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports that the preliminary results of the investigation indicate Terence Gaskin, 39, of Lake Alfred, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado in the inner lane while Jalen Gaskins, 23, of Winter Haven, was operating a company-owned 2020 Ford F-350 in the outer westbound lane on U.S. 17-92.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Terence had just returned from taking Jalen to pick up the Ford that their employer had purchased.

About a mile west of U.S. 27 on Dyson Road, a different vehicle had done a U-turn into the right westbound lane in front of Jalen Gaskins. The Sheriff’s Office claims that Jalen lost control of the truck when he changed lanes to overtake the car, slid, and twisted into Terence’s pickup, which sustained minor damage but no injuries.

Yohanmi Mena Lopez, 32, of Poinciana, was operating a 2008 Subaru Tribeca when the F-350, which was still spinning, crossed the median into the eastbound lanes and collided with the Subaru, ki!!ing Lopez and sending it careening into a small ravine.

Yomairy Lugo, 33, of Poinciana, Florida, was driving a 2019 Toyota Rav4 when she collided with Lopez’s wife’s F-350 after it toppled onto its driver’s side in the eastbound lanes. Eventually, Lugo was transferred to a medical facility where she was treated and eventually released.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe being driven by Luis Perez, 66, of Auburndale, narrowly avoided hitting the other wrecked cars before off the road and crashing into a barrier.
