A Plainville man passed away on Saturday as a result of injuries he suffered in a motorbike accident on Shears Street. Chief William McGrath of the Wrentham Police Department named the victim as Dennis F. Moore, 63, of 25 Lincoln Ave., Plainville, on Sunday.
“Sadly, this crash turned out to be a fatal,” McGrath said. Moore was traveling toward Franklin Street (Route 140) on Shears Street while operating a motorcycle.
“The motorcycle left the road, striking several shrubs and a small tree,” McGrath said.
“Mr. Moore sustained serious injuries and was immediately unresponsive,” McGrath said. “A nurse who witnessed the accident occur, stopped and provided CPR, assisted shortly thereafter by a civilian, then police officers and firefighters.”
Moore was brought to Attleboro’s Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The collision happened close to the road’s bend and the old Tavern at Wrentham, which had taken Tom’s Tavern’s position.
“Though the cause of this accident remains under investigation, it’s apparent Mr. Moore lost control of his motorcycle while navigating a curve in the road,” McGrath said.

Following the collision, Shears Street—which runs alongside the Wrentham Developmental Center and sports fields—was closed from Emerald to North streets. Shears Street is a well-traveled route that connects Wrentham and Norfolk.
State police and Wrentham continue to investigate this crash.
“The Wrentham Police Department extends our sympathies to Mr. Moore’s family and friends,” McGrath said. “We also extend our gratitude and appreciation to the nurse and civilian who provided care to Mr. Moore before public safety arrived on scene.”
