Family Reunites With Woman Kidnapped As A Toddler 51 Years Ago

A woman who was kidnapped almost 50 years ago has reconciled with her family.

Melissa Highsmith’s family heard in October that she might be in the Daniel Island neighborhood of Charleston, South Carolina.

However, this week, Highsmith’s family claimed to have located her in Forth Worth, Texas, where they also reside.

Highsmith confessed, “I feel like I’m dreaming, and I keep having to pinch myself to make sure I’m awake.

In 1971, Highsmith was kidnapped. At the moment, she was 21 months old. She was given to a babysitter by her mother, who was 22 at the time and was never seen again.

The family attributes their ability to locate her to a DNA test.

Highsmith revealed her intention to change her name from Melanie to Melissa.

She added that she wanted to remarry her husband so that her family could attend the wedding and that her father could lead her down the aisle.
