Execution Sought for Murder of Pregnant Texas Woman

On Wednesday, prosecutors in Texas requested a jury to condemn a woman to death for the murder of a pregnant woman and the theft of her unborn daughter.

Taylor Parker was on trial for capital murder for killing Reagan Simmons-Hancock in October 2020 and taking her unborn child.

The appeal was filed as the sentencing phase of the trial began. Parker was previously convicted of capital murder by a jury in Bowie County.

Kelley Crisp, the prosecutor, told the jury that Parker, 29, had lied to them about being pregnant.

He had killed Simmons-Hancock, 21, on October 9, 2020, in Simmons-Hancock’s in New Boston to steal the baby she claimed to be carrying. The newborn was also lost.

Parker’s defence team is pleading with the jury to grant their client a pardon and a life sentence without the chance of parole.

Jeff Harrelson, who represents Parker, said the defence will prove his client’s mental illness.
