Sheriff’s investigators in Sedalia are attempting to determine what caused the train accident that struck a person on Thursday afternoon.
“The train was able to stop as soon as it could. They discovered the victim about a quarter mile, half a mile south of the northbound tracks,” said Cocha Heyden from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred in the vicinity of Platte Avenue and Karcher Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. According to the sheriff’s office, there is an ongoing investigation into the death, and further details will be made public as they become available.

The identity of the victim who was struck and died remained a mystery to the sheriff. After the victim has been positively identified, the name will be made public by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office, which was present at the scene of the collision.
Sheriff’s deputies reported that they were knocking on doors in the vicinity of the tracks to inquire whether anyone had heard or seen anything suspicious in relation to the crash or if anyone had seen anyone around the train tracks before the incident.
