Coweta County suffered a heartbreaking loss when Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix was killed in a fatal crash during a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 11:55 p.m. on Interstate 85 in Chambers County, Alabama.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Tragedy
The chase began when Decedric Donson, a 25-year-old Pensacola resident, got control of a stolen 2022 Dodge Challenger.
Donson led Deputy Minix through several counties, crossing into Alabama. Alabama law enforcement authorities used stop sticks to safely stop the speeding vehicle.

Accidental Collision Claims Deputy’s Life
Officer Cornelius Robinson of the Lanett, Alabama Police Department arrived on the scene as Deputy Minix approached the stopped vehicle and began issuing commands to Donson.
Officer Robinson was unable to bring his police cruiser to a complete stop in time, colliding into Deputy Minix.
Despite efforts to save him, Deputy Minix was taken to East Alabama Medical Center-Lanier in Valley and died as a result of his injuries.
The Lanett Police Department has placed Officer Robinson on administrative leave as investigations continue into the heartbreaking accident.
