Coweta County Deputy Dies In High-Speed Chase With Lanett Police
Following a high-speed pursuit early on Thursday morning, a police cruiser struck a Coweta County deputy, who is now deceased.
On January 4 at around two in the morning, Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix and other law enforcement officers were pursuing a suspect who was operating a stolen car. The pursuit began in Georgia and proceeded into Chambers County along I-85.
Eric Minix was struck by a police vehicle while the suspect was being apprehended. After being taken to a neighboring hospital, he was declared deceased. Deputy Minix leaves behind three daughters and a wife.
At this time, the suspect in the stolen car is being held. According to LPD, the Lanett police officer has been placed on administrative leave while ALEA conducts its investigation.
