COVID-19 Stats: 557 New Cases, 6 New Deaths in Orange County

According to the Orange County COVID-19 Database, there are 557 new cases of the coronavirus in Orange County California, accumulating into 282,643 total cases (includes only PCR positive cases as well as deaths) in the county as of August 25.

6 new cases were recorded, which makes the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the county 5,197. 

Death certificates and results according to case investigations are used in compiling data on the number of deaths and since these can take weeks to process, they may not be updated in real-time.

According to the investigations, the most recent death recorded by the database was on August 13. 

Investigations also show that of the 5,190 deaths reported from the virus, 1,145 were skilled nursing facility residents, 613 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates and 14 were listed as homeless.

The Orange County Health Care Agency also reports 19,776 cumulative antigen-positive cases and 477 PCR cases received. On a 7-day average, Orange County receives 22.2 Adjusted Daily Case Rate, an 8% Test Positivity Rate, and an 8.4 % Health Equity Quartile Positivity Rate.

Cases of the coronavirus steadily rise in Orange County, California, despite a new high in vaccination rates. Experts say it is way too early to say that the surge is over.

According to two different data maps from the OC Health Care Agency, less than half of San Clemente’s residents younger than 65 have been vaccinated, while an overwhelming majority of seniors have been vaccinated. 

Emergency declarations are set to be posted as Orange County COVID cases continue to rise. At least nine cities across Orange County have ended their emergencies while others move to reinforce and extend their emergency protocols.

An expert says that numbers may still go higher especially since students are expected to go back to school next month.
